The Return of DC’s CRISIS?

At the recent Emerald City Comic Con, James Robinson made some interesting comments in regards to his book Earth 2. In a report from CBR, he talks about his efforts to continue the world building that we’ve been seeing in the title, and states the following in regards to the introduction of Captain Steel that will be seen in The Annual: “It’s one of the pieces of what DC and I are planning…little pieces building and building into what will be a major event for DC in 2014.” Hmm…a major event in 2014 involving a parallel Earth? I smell and CRISIS brewing. No, not one that will reboot things yet again, but one that will allow DC’s creators to have fun with our beloved characters on a multiversal scale. Continue reading

Why YOU Should Read…My So-Called Secret Identity

I’ve recently had the opportunity to preview an incredible new digital comic that’s launching today. You may have heard of it yourself as it’s been making its way around the blogosphere of late. The book is called My So-Called Secret Identity and any acclaim it has received so far is well deserved. It comes as no surprise that this book is being so well regarded either as its creator is a PhD and “internationally-acclaimed Batman scholar.” Speaking of the Bat, fans of Gail Simone’s Batgirl are DEFINITELY going to want watch out for this book as well, and I’m here to shed a little light on why YOU should too. Especially considering that the first issue is FREE. Continue reading

The New 52 Is A Bona Fide Success! But How Long Will It Last?

It’s been a little over a year since the launch of The New 52 so I feel it’s time to take a look back at this initiative’s success and look forward a bit to what The New 52 will look like in the future.  Regardless of how you feel about the reboot it’s clear that The New 52 gambit worked out very well for DC Comics and, according to some, the comic book industry as a whole.  In light of that, I wanted to talk about about the success of The New 52, the concept of reboots, and my concerns with how the New 52 will look like a few years from now. Should We Still Care About Booster Gold?

So Justice League International Annual #1 recently came out and I wanted to say a few things about it, the less than necessary series that preceded it, and the titles star character, Booster Gold.  Reading this series and learning the few things we have learned about the New 52 version of Booster leads me to ask:  Should we still care about Booster Gold?   Continue reading

Scott Lobdell Does Something Right? A (LATE) Review of Superboy 10!

Scott Lobdell is currently writing multiple titles for DC Comics and, to put it kindly, he’s not been my favorite writer of the New 52.  If you’ve read my previous posts “Superman Is A Star And Should Be Written By One” and  “Tim Drake Was Never Robin? And More Reasons Why Scott Lobdell Angers Me.” then you know the reasons why I’m not the biggest fan of Lobdell.  However, in the spirit of fairness, I decided to write this post as he’s done the unthinkable and has actually written something I enjoy. Continue reading
